With the recent increase in the elderly population and their increased demand for better health-related quality of life (QoL), lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTSs), which produce discomfort in elderly men, are receiving more attention. No significant associations emerged for Tai chi qigong and/or self-defense Kung-fu training and sexual health. In addition, depressive symptoms, life satisfaction, and sexual health were assessesd via self-report questionnaires. In addition, the results showed a significant effect of tai chi on testosterone levels, but no significant effect on insulin or glucose. Fifty-six elderly patients with BPH were randomised to either 12 weeks of tai chi group or a control group. The sex hormones levels were measured before and after qigong practice for one year. Lu and Kuo have reported that tai chi is effective in improving autonomic nervous system-related diseases in the elderly by promoting the activity of the parasympathetic nervous system and reducing the excitement of the sympathetic nervous system 10, 11. Tai chi has been recommended as an exercise suitable for improving elderly men's cardiopulmonary function and muscle strength and for reducing tension, anxiety, and mood disorders . Benign prostate hypertrophy (BPH), a major cause of LUTS in elderly men, is a urinary tract disease caused by a combination of prostate hypertrophy, lower urinary tract obstruction, and dysfunction of the bladder muscles. For depression, contrast analyses revealed a significantly lower level of depression in the high training load group compared to the control group. Further, in contrast to the control group, the low training load group exhibits a significantly higher CT-ratio. Saliva samples were obtained in a standardized procedure for subsequent quantification of circulating testosterone and cortisol levels. The foundation of a heart-healthy diet should be minimally processed plant-based foods, which are good sources of fiber, protein, and phytonutrients. Total scores of 0 to 7, 8 to 19, and 20 to 35 indicate mild, moderate, and severe symptoms, respectively. We received approval for the study from the Dong-A University Hospital's Institutional Review Board before we approached the subjects; all the subjects provided written informed consent (Figure 1). The subjects were informed about the nature of BHP and the study procedures. Patients with BPH were recruited through bulletin board invitations to participate in a 12-week tai chi program at the Dong-A University Medical Center. We hypothesized that tai chi would improve LUTS and BPH by modulating the autonomic nervous system. However, the type, time, and intensity of exercise best suited for the alleviation of LUTS due to BPH have not yet been studied. A special guide book for home practice, containing pictures and written descriptions of the exercises in the tai chi program, was produced. The tai chi program consisted of a warm-up exercise (15 min), 20 main movements (40 min), and a cool-down exercise (5 min). Positive results might lead to tai chi being adopted as a nursing intervention for patients with BPH. Studies show that getting fewer than 6-7 hours of sleep per night can significantly reduce testosterone production. Getting enough restorative sleep is essential for testosterone production. The good news is there are natural ways to balance testosterone and restore vitality—many of which are supported by both modern science and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It influences energy levels, mood, muscle strength, libido, and overall vitality. The Memorial Sloan Kettering Fundamentals of Oncology Acupuncture did not spend much on prostate cancer. The lifestyle of a monk and the common person is very different when it comes to celibacy practices and procreation. Each individual is different and doing holds and celibacy can stagnate jing and Qi and may cause prostate swelling which is not normal.Hope this helps. Hope it helps prevent prostate cancer in men, because prostate cancer going unchecked can spread into the bones. To find a baseline when the prostate is normal and when the prostate is swollen and tender.I’ve found it difficult to talk to male patients about this, but I usually advise them on first intake when talking about urinary disorders, prostate history, low libido and erectile dysfunction.Just my 2 cents. It might be hard to discuss this with male patients, but self digital-exam of the prostate is important. The PSA exam men get only indicates if the prostate is having an issue and not positive for cancer. Regarding the QoL worry & concern subscale, there was significant improvement in the tai chi group compared with the control, while the results failed to show significant improvements in the urination-related discomfort or interference with daily activity subscales. Table 1 shows the demographic characteristics of subjects in the tai chi and control groups. We conducted an additional analysis to compare the demographic and pretest data of the dropouts to those of the remaining members of the tai chi and control groups and found no significant differences. Both pre- and posttest data were available from 14 subjects in the tai chi group and 14 controls. We wished to estimate the sample size that would be sufficient to detect an appropriate difference in the IPSS between the tai chi and control groups. They were contacted by the researchers twice weekly by telephone to confirm that they were not taking part in any other exercise activities and to provide an impetus to keep them participating in the study. The participants recorded the frequency and duration of their home tai chi in their exercise logs, which the instructors assessed during every weekly session. Maintaining a healthy weight is crucial for hormone balance. Regular practice of these exercises helps boost vitality and balance testosterone levels. Elevated cortisol (the body’s primary stress hormone) inhibits testosterone production and can disrupt overall hormone balance.
